Mogilev Mechanical Engineering Institute was founded on September 1, 1961 by № 714 resolution of the USSR Council of Ministers of August 10, 1961 and by № 504 resolution of the BSSR Council of Ministers of August 22, 1961. The Institute became a unique Institution of Education of such kind in Belarus.
By №198 order of the Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus of May 17, 2000 Mogilev Mechanical Engineering Institute was transformed into Mogilev State Technical University (MSTU).
According to the agreement between the government of the Republic of Belarus and the government of the Russian Federation signed on January 19, 2001 in Mogilev by orders of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus № 3862/518 of November 28, 2001 and №2102/206 of May 15, 2003 and by order of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus №371 of September 23, 2003 the University was transformed into the State Institution of Higher Professional Education "Belarusian-Russian University"(Belarusian-Russian University).
The Rector of the University is Igor Sergeevich Sazonov, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor.
Belarusian - Russian University is the largest regional scientific and technical center, comprising Professional Development and Retraining Institute, the college of architecture and construction and lyceum.
Belarusian - Russian University has 5 faculties for full-time tuition: automechanical, mechanical engineering, construction, electrical engineering and economics. There is a correspondence faculty and a faculty of pre-university preparation.
Specialists of 16 specialities and of 31 specialization fields in compliance with Belarusian Educational Standarts of 5 specialities with Russian Educational Standarts are trained at the University. The college of architecture and construction trains students in 4 fields. The Professional Development and Retraining Institute allows people with higher education to be retrained and get another higher education in one of the 9 specialities. The student body of the University is more than 7500, the total number of students in all structural subdivisions is over 12000 people.
Studies are held in 7 buildings equipped with modern teaching aids. The library resource accounts for over 1,5 mln copies of textbooks and teaching manuals. The University has a publishing center with a good stock of modern copiers.
Specialists of the highest qualification are trained through magistracy, post-graduate studies and as external post-graduates in 15 scientific fields. There is a specialized Board for the defending dissertations and awarding the Candidate's of Science degree. The University publishes periodically a scientific journal "Vestnik of Belarusian-Russian University" and a collection of scientific works. International scientific and technical conferences are held at the University annually.
The University maintains links with educational institutions, organizations and scientists of CIS countries and of Australia, Bulgaria, Germany, Egypt, Nepal, Poland, Russia, Syria, Slovakia, the USA, the Ukraine, Sweden, Yugoslavia.
There is a department on work with foreign students at the University. Citizens of foreign countries enter Belarusian-Russian University on the basis of contract providing for tuition fee by physical and juridical persons.
Tuition fee is $1800 per year. Education of foreign citizens is available on all faculties in Russian. The University puts a hostel at students' disposal.
Foreign citizens who don't know Russian study on the pre-university preparatory department of the university for a year to learn the Russian language. The tuition fee on the pre-university preparatory faculty is $1100 per year.
Upon graduation a student is given a diploma of the international standart.
Foreign citizens have studied at the University since 1985. Since then students from 36 countries have got education here. Students from China, Syria, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Morocco, Tunisia and Palestine are studying at the Belarusian-Russian University nowadays.
